Sells Pro Training Coach James Norton has been appointed to the Goal Keeping Coach role in the ESFA U18 Boys’ International Management Team.  As well as his role for the England school’s James and his team run weekly sessions in Hull, Grimsby, Scunthorpe, Doncaster, Lincoln and Louth for Sells Pro Training. James will also be a familiar face to those who attend the residential courses.

The ESFA provides opportunities for talented players in full-time education to represent their country whilst still concentrating on their schooling. The Under 18 Boys, selected by trials, gain the opportunity to pull on an England Schools’ jersey, travel to Europe to train and play against their counterparts overseas. The England Under 18’s boys play in the Centenary Shield is contested by schoolboys from England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.

James said: ‘I am looking forward to my new role and challenges ahead. The ethos of the ESFA to provide opportunities for talented players is very similar to what we want to do with our goalkeepers at Sells. Goalkeepers don’t peak until they are in their early thirties, so it’s great to give opportunities while they continue their education. You only have to look at  Nick Pope, who was released by Ipswich at sixteen and then went into further education has gone onto play for England, there’s exceptional talent out there.’
